the first day

Two weeks later, yes, but I don't want to forget to post these.  My Kindergartener:A new-to-me aspect of my boy's personality has emerged with his starting school.  The school teacher in me went over the student handbook with him the week before school, and he ate up every detail.  Down to the "shirts are to be normal fitting, size appropriate, and worn inside pants if length extends below buttock."  Every morning he oh-so-consciously checks out the back of his shirt in relation to his "buttock" and then turns to tuck & grab the belt.  Just in case.  He's a stickler for rules so far.  And I find his daily tucked-in self to be the cutest boy in the 11:15 pick-up line.

But, back to that first day...Little brother insisted on a front yard picture, too.   He's both too big and too small.  A troublesome mixture.

Perhaps we made too much of a production, but both Jim & I took Aidan on his first day.  I didn't want to miss it.  And I knew Jim would be the best remedy for our twin nerves.  The jitters were obvious in A's demeanor, but when the time to line up arrived, he swallowed the nerves and turned stoic.  Even Grandma Scott would have been proud (okay, that's just me talking...she would have expected no less, of course).

The boy came home that day with an insane amount of nervous energy...to such a degree that I wasn't sure if I could face more school days.  But every day since has been a pleasant surprise.  He loves P.E.  Loves music.  Loves homework.  And I secretly hope he'll always love school every bit as much as I did.

He is so darn cute! I'm shocked at how tall he is, I think he'd dwarf Talin at this point.

He is the cutest boy in the pick-up line! I love his tucked in shirts. And I, also, secretly hope Sav likes school as much as I did, but I really think that's more of a dream...

Oh man, you captured it. The detail about the shirt being tucked in, the candid shot of him contemplating while holding his books, the "troublesome mixture" of being too big and too small and left behind, Grandma Scott's expectations, Jim passing on courage to him and then the link to the two of you--you hoping he loved school as you did.

I love reading your writing.

What a momentous occasion. It is amazing to continue to watch your little ones grow up into not-so-little ones. Way to go on keeping the rules!

I love the serious look on his face, and the tucked in shirt is a great symbol of how he feels about the whole school experience. Love that!

I don't know how the poor kids to recess in long pants, though! They are brave, for sure.
