bread & breakfast

258718748_DTsXb-M.jpg

I made Michelle's Limpa Rye Bread yesterday and am smitten (that's her picture, too..).  So molasses will now be a permanent staple in the Scott pantry.  And rye flour.  Other than those, the recipe calls for very basic ingredients.  I just posted it on Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Speaking of breakfast, it is my struggle lately.  Which is odd because I make eggs & toast for the boys nearly every day of our lives.  They are big-time breakfasters. I simply don't wake up wanting food.  But I do wake up needing food.  I'm not sure if that even makes sense, but there it is.

So this week I pulled out my dormant blender and am definitely finding it easier to drink than eat my breakfast.  My energy & mood {and kids!} have benefited.  With Davyn still sick, I haven't gone out to buy a bunch of fruit yet, so this has been my simple smoothie solution:

1 packet vanilla instant breakfast
8 oz. skim milk
4-5 strawberries
(one day I added an orange that needed using..bananas would be great, too)
ice (to desired thickness)
wheat germ

It tastes good, is plenty versatile & calms my a.m. beastiness.  But if you'd like to start your day with a little cream of coconut (who wouldn't?!), here is my all-time favorite smoothie recipe:

Strawberry Banana Coconut

1/2 cup strawberries
1/2 banana
2 Tbsp cream of coconut
1/4 cup pineapple (canned is fine)
1/4 cup skim milk
1 cup ice cubes
(I also add a soy protein powder)

What do you do for breakfast?

How in the world did get so behind?? I love that you actually took the time to get caught up on your blessings. I feel I am sorta jipping mine just listing them without explanation. Those aprons are darling! And it looks like you have been on a cooking roll. Your breakfast looks devine! I wish I had more time here so we could hook up for lunch. I feel like this week is getting away from me and Sunday is already Easter. Yikes!

I'll tell you what I'm doing for breakfast tomorrow -- dropping by your house to get a to-go smoothie as I head to Dr. D's! Sound like a plan? I love smoothies and I suppose I should stop being a snot and just make them in my blender even though my heart longs for a vita-mix and is convinced no smoothie will live up to a vita-mix smoothie. So now I know why you want to do Sprouts tomorrow. Sounds like a plan.

Ah, you found rye flour! I really want to make that bread -- I'll have to try that instead of cupcake therapy next time.

Cupcakes do make a lovely breakfast.

I have never thought of making smoothies. I have a nice blender, but have only used it a few times. I'll have to buy some ingredients. I also enjoy a good cupcake breakfast from time to time!

I am downing a bowl of Shreddies with brown sugar on top as I read this post, but it's not my usual breakfast.
Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, I love it all. I took a picture the last time I made German Pancakes (puff pancakes) and I will eventually email you the photo and recipe. It would have to be my favorite breakfast.

I love smoothies! But, we usually eat them at lunch instead of breakfast. I usually freeze my fruit and freeze containers of yogurt so I can make them anytime. Frozen bananas add a creaminess that I really like.

Our week-day breakfasts are quite boring--cold ceral all around. The weekends we have more time so we do pancakes, German pancakes (like Barb!), biscuts, muffins, etc.

Frozen bananas are my favorite in my smoothies, too, Tiff! Jim doesn't care for them though, but I love the creaminess. I think you taught me that way back in our 222 days!

Breakfast is wonderful. Why do people always skip it?

I have heard, and do believe, most of us do it backward -what we should do is have a larger breakfast, small lunch and smaller dinner. Instead we have a bite of toast or like my friend 'J', only coffee, then larger meals. I adore all the tasty, bad for you breakfast food! I could eat bacon everyday of
my life if allowed.heehee That's why I stick to a bowl
of boring Kashi in the a.m. to fill me. Lots of good fiber too :)
(I make a protein shake after the treadmill though.)

I'm glad you liked the bread! It's my fave. For breakfast, I often eat leftovers. That could mean cake or pie, or it could mean pasta. Rarely, I'll have a bowl of cereal. Oh, I also enjoy herbal tea and wheat toast! But now I want to try your smoothie recipe.
