52 Blessings

week 5:  Reading with my Boys

208%20A%20D%20read%20poetry.jpg

When they approached me this morning with this book, I had to bite the "no" that was rising from my throat, and stifle thoughts of my endless to-do's (recovering from birthday party & Superbowl & DB's cold that just won't quit).     In no way did I realize how enjoyable our poetry hour would be.  This book isn't among those they typically bring to my lap, but we laughed and giggled through all kinds of nonsense & new words.  A definite blessing in this stolen moment.

The poem they made me repeat at least five times --
(must be read aloud with children present for full effect, of course)

On the Ning Nang Nong
Where the cows go Bong!
And the monkeys all say Boo!
There's a Nong Nang Ning
Where the trees go Ping!
And the tea pots Jibber Jabber Joo.
On the Nong Ning Nang
All the mice go Clang!
And you just can't catch 'em when they do!
So it's Ning Nang Nong!
Cows go Bong!
Nong Nang Ning!
Trees go Ping!
Nong Ning Nang!
The mice go Clang!
What a noisy place to belong,
Is the Ning Nang Ning Nang Nong!

Awesome picture. Love A's smile, D's eyes, and the fact that they are super heroes reading poetry!! What a priceless hour you created. Sometimes I want to be 4 again and live at your house.

Very cute picture - D's face is great. I know the feeling of wanting to say no, but then when you actually take some time, they so love it. It's so worth it. I don't know how many times I played Candyland and Pretty Princess last week, but they'll soon be grown up and not want us, right?

you really captured the moment with that photo. Nice work. It is a blessing to be able to read to your children, and you get so much in return. I am going to go read to mine.

"You may have tangible wealth untold;
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be—
I had a mother who read to me."

Blessing, indeed.

So fun. One of my kids favorite book is a monster one filled with old school nursery rhymes. They're actually a lot of fun to read, sometimes...
I'm waiting for the birthday pictures though!

That is a great poem! I actually read it over a couple of times myself. It's a fun one to have in your head.

A wonderful blessing for sure!

This is so precious! It reminds me of the country song
I just heard 'you're gonna miss this' about times in our lives that we'll miss later -like newlyweds in an
apartment, and littles in the house, etc. soo sweet!

I read it outloud despite the lack of children around. I can see why that one was heavily requested. Last night as we drove through the fading daylight and Alexis bend over her book, I encouraged her to turn on the light on her carseat. "It's ok. I can still see." I laughed when I realized I was in the front seat doing the exact same thing! But I didn't start reading by traffic light until I was a teenager. She's turning into me early than I did :).

That is a great poem. I can see why they made you repeat it! I love that the Spider Man suit was included in poetry time!

That is a fun poem, and a self-created blessing (saying yes).
I'm going to have to check out Eric Kincaid.

More often than not I bite back the no's as well. Sometimes those books are so wordy. I am all about Dr. Suess easy peasy. But I am so grateful that my boys still want me to read to them! Darling photo!

The photos captures their sweet sweet faces perfectly. I also have to remind myself to stop and take advantage of those rare moments more often... the to-dos often win. I'm glad you were able to enjoy this time with your boys- and that you were wise enough to see it as a blessing.
