spooky

pooky%20pooky.jpgAnything Halloween is *'pooky 'pooky* according to Davyn.  And there's plenty around the neighborhood already.  From front yards transformed into graveyards to a giant treasure chest with popping out skeleton.  I added a more subtle *'pooky* to my house this week.

Candids of the kids usually fill these frames, but I found these silhouettes at Martha Stewart's website, and they made for a quick & cheap decorative transformation.  I'm loving the raven.

I'm also anxious for other spooky endeavours.  Pumpking carving and Halloween treat-making posts will hopefully come soon.  If I can find a pumpkin with stem intact (that's what I get for trying at a grocery store!).  And if Mandi will get back from Iowa to be my baking buddy.

In the meantime, stay tuned for a little more *'pooky* to come this week!

anyone else frustrated by littles who refuse to be anything spooky for Halloween?  I want a vampire..a ghost..Frankenstein.  But it seems I'll forever be entrenched in the Justice League.  Aidan has the next three years of super hero costumes planned.  Perhaps I'll start working on D...

spt:*fall* into autumn

Fall 1995 I was spoiled forever by an October trip to Vermont.  Now I have this seasonal hunger for color and crunch...neither of which are found in my hometown Arizona.  But, knowing my love & lack, a few falls later Kel sent me a Good Mail package full of her Chicago.  I'm not sure if she knows that I immediately framed the leaves.  A piece of fall that I'll keep forever beside my rolling memories of Vermont aflame.

I also added a fun bit of fall Halloween to my house last Saturday.  My mother-in-law invited all her girls and her good friend Cheryl with her girls over to do this project.  It was a blast!  Eating, sanding, painting, staining, stenciling, glittering, chatting.  A perfect Saturday morning.  Thank you for the fun project, Kay!

the October wreath I've been meaning to make

I loved Lelly's challenge this week.  But managed to miss out on the Tuesday part of it.  So here I am on Thursday...late on account of my fairly typical self-imposed chaoses.  Yes, there's a long list of things that keep me muddled in the "I've been meaning to do that" list.

Two falls ago I saw a picture of a similar wreath and have wanted to create one of my own.  It's Halloween without being too haunty.  The supplies were simple:  mini pumpkins from WalMart, styrofoam wreath form and wide silk ribbon from Michael's.  Wrap the ribbon around the styrofoam.  I used an intense glue on the back once in a while to keep it snugly in place.  Then glue on the pumpkins (again, intense glue and overnight drying) and add the bow {which I liked small & long after some experimentation}.
