    we've come a long way

Yesterday afternoon I tied on my tennis shoes before heading out with my boys to meet Jim.  And it made me laugh inside.  Thinking of the first baseball game I went to with Jim, and the strappy sandals I wore that murdered my feet even before we got to show our tickets.  I have no pictures, but that *before* and *after* are clear in my head, and entail a thousand more detailed differences than footwear.   Two is now Four.  And I wear tennis shoes.  In public.

Our two additions have also come a long way over the past year.  I love that we're at a stage when being out & about in the business of going & doing is not as difficult as it once was.  The boys really are surprisingly well-behaved.  And just plain Fun.

Aidan did a lot of dad time.

Davyn did a lot of dance moves.

He also loved clapping.  And flirting with "cute ladies".  But was most interested in the vendors bounding up & down the aisles.  I heard some rendition of this statement at least five times from him throughout the night:  "I want to be that man when I get big."  At one point I turned to Aidan and asked, "Do you want to sell food like that with your brother when you grow up?".  He immediately rolled his eyes and pointed to the field.  "I want to play baseball."

There's something so All-American about taking your boys to a baseball game.  We agreed that we'd probably go sans kids next time (we'll have to come a whole lot further before I'm willing to give up my seat next to Jim twice in a row), but it was a very enjoyable family outing and one I hope to repeat often.

You're right...that is an All-American evening. I like your sentence that you'll have to come further to give up Jim's side twice in a row.

love going to baseball games - there is something so all-american about it. Of course the only baseball games I have been going to lately are 8 year olds, but that's fun too.

This is a great age to have two little boys at. We love taking the boys to sports games, and monster trucks earlier in the year was a blast.

    Looks so fun.

And a rare night with the roof open...the weather has been amazing.

Love your pictures...they capture your boys just perfectly.

Great pictures! I would love to see you in tennis shoes, shall we go for a walk?

Davyn dancing. That's got a nice ring to it.

I clearly remember my Dad taking me to an Angels game when I was eleven. It's a dear memory, and I'm sure it will be for your boys too.

Baseball games are really fun with kids. Love those dance moves. And isn't it funny what we did when we were dating (about the shoes I mean) I don't think I wear anything but flip flops. My feet may stink, but at least I can walk comfortably!

Baseball is really ALL-American clean fun. And your boys are just so wonderful. I am with April about the pictures. And again...loved the writing.

Yes, Sprinkles IS the way to go! North East corner of Camelback and Scottsdale road! Be prepared to fall in love (& to spend all your money)!

Your boys are absolutely adorable! (Jim included!) It's been forever since I've seen ya'll!

These pictures are darling! There is something that warms my heart about a baseball game with the family. It seems like such a traditional family thing to do. :) I saw your previous post, about art with Grandma Kay. So cute! I just got home from working with her in the kitchen at a friends, daughters reception. Kay does amaze me! So organized, and such a great person!

I went to e-mail you about 2-3 weeks ago,and realized I can't find your e-mail address. Can you e-mail me at Azsunm@ol.com I still would love to get together with everyone, even if it is just for lunch. :)

Um, I might need some photographic evidence of your feet in tennis shoes.

This looks like so much fun! We got to go to one Cubs game when we were impoverished in Chicago, and I didn't expect to like it because I wasn't that into baseball. But, it was SO fun, and one of my favorite Chicago memories.

Your boys are insanely cute. I was shocked by Aidan's long sleeves. Has it been chilly? I guess if anyone deserves a long cool spring, it's you guys. Just sad I'm missing your version of it. When will that come around again, 40 years??

Sounds like a great evening out with the boys. I thought it was funny when you said going to a baseball game felt so all-American; I had a very similar feeling at a hockey game this winter. I just felt so Canadian!

Great pictures of your boys, too.

I'm never going to be the girl who sits down to watch a game on TV, but I have been to several MLB games and they are so much fun in person.
The tennis shoe story, I can't decided if it is a story of being older and wiser or a story of being a mother of boys. Maybe a little bit of both?

How fun! :) I bet your boys had a blast! Love the tennis shoe story, I can totally relate!

Cute pictures and I'm glad you guys had fun. Lucky for you, kids change their career choices constantly so there's hope D won't become a vendor!

How fun! Dad-time, dance moves, baseball, and vendors...does it get better than that?? Isn't it funny the things that intrigue children. I can't imagine lugging a tray full of food around my neck for hours. What a great summer outing!

I love that your change in footwear marks the passage of time.

I love Davyns dance moves. Looks like such a fun night.

Amy, I have also worn tennis shoes...in public...with jeans. it's not something I'm proud of, but for the good of the family, it's something I have relented to do, although infrequently.

We are taking the boys to a baseball game this weekend in Denver. I'm so excited because it is so....American.

Shoes make or break your experience don't they? Alexis has gotten into the habit of trying to bring an change of shoes "just in case." I wonder where she picked up that habit from?
I love the picture of Jim & Aidan. I can just hear the family fun at the baseball game night.

I have to say, it looks like a fun outing, and I don't even like sports! (But watching them in person is completely different than watching them on tv.) I have had to wear tennis shoes in public lately -- drat.

This is great. I love the thought of you in strappy sandals at a baseball game, that's hilarious. I'm glad you now wear tennis shoes in public, comfort is key.

The boys' career choices are cute.
