Dear Tiffany
I have the cutest picture of you & Alan sitting on the couch in Apartment 222...looking very much in love. You in a kanji shirt, him looking crazily young (and we thought you were marrying an "older man" when he stole you away...ah, perspective!). Sadly, my scanner that worked fine two days ago is currently not cooperating, so I went to my journals (which are frighteningly copious) and will instead paint another picture. My{late!} birthday gift to you is a memory.
Journal Entry from August 15, 1991:
(anyone who did not know us all at 16 should probably stop here...seriously).
Last night I got together with April, Tiffany, and Kelly. We had so much fun..we always do. But we are really rather strange. First we went to April's house and watched her do the dishes (she refused to let us help). Then we went to Safeway - it'sour place. First we went to the area where the beans are. We immersed our hands in them and cleaned up and organized them in their bin. One of the corners of the bin is broken so we moved all of the beans out of it and put the scoopers there in that corner. I was saying that I would tell my dad to come fix the corner because when beans were in it they fall out. So we decided to write a note and put it by the broken corner. It said: "Fix me! (please) I want to be pretty like all the other corners."
When we were done with our beans we decided to walk around the store and look for other ways to beautify. We straighteneed boxes but finally sat down to relax in the middle of the breakfast aisle. We all took syrup bottles and used them as microphones, singing, "I can cally ou Betty and Betty, when you call me, you can call me Al." Then we decided to each go search for a microphone and meet back up. Tiff & I took off. April & Kel went the other way. Tiff & I found our microphones (a dog treat and bottle of mustard), then decided to hide from Kelly and April. We ran from row to row ducking and watching out for them. We thought we were so sneaky, but were embarrassed when they said they had seen us running all over and wondered what we were doing.
After Safeway, we went to Tiff's house to make a cake. While she slaved over the cake I watercolored all over April's arms. On her right arm there was a sun, a moon, a heart and a purple flower. We all signed our names on her left arm. Kelly's was so cute - it had a little smiley face with blonde hair on it. April said she wouldn't wash it. I hope she didn't because she had a Seminary Council meeting today.
I have so much fun with them. They are the greatest friends in the world...destined to be friends forever.
I have to smile at the tame innocence of our wild teenage nights...honestly hoping that my own children will find themselves with friends like I had. The kind who make them better. When we got back in touch last summer {after years!} I realized how much that "friends forever" really means to me. Your simple goodness is needed in my life. And I'm grateful for the daily glimpses of that through your blog. I love you, Tiff!

Reuniting has been a wonderful thing for me, too. I love all of you, and feel that in some way we've found our cul de sac. (Minus the scary husbands chosen in high school. I still remember their code names.)
Maybe this post should have been password protected for the 4 of us. :)
Such a sweet post... I adore Tiffany and think the world of her!!
I was party to several silly teenage outtings like this. Once we brought a mobile CD player to a mall, turned it on, and started dancing in the middle of the walkway. We got some strange looks, but we loved it.
