ouch

I woke up this morning with a mile long to-do list. The world had to be in order by tonight because tomorrow morning I'll be on a 9:04 flight to Des Moines. Well, at 9:04 this morning Davyn nose-dived out of my vehicle and face-planted into the asphalt.

His cry told me it was serious.

But when I got past the blood and managed to make sense of his mouth, I was a bit horrified. His front tooth was pushed up almost completely into his gums. My heart was wrenched and well-laid plans were scrapped. Jim & I both accompanied him to the dentist (a new & fabulous dentist, you'll be happy to hear).

The poor boy has been in pain most of the day, but he still managed this smile when I pulled out the camera.

I will miss my 3 boys over the next week...my heart is so tied up in theirs.  But the sad truth is that they'll likely do just fine without me.  Is it bragging to confess that Jim is -hands down- the best dad ever?  They'll miss me as the dishes stack up, I'm sure...but I have no doubt that fun will be had in my absence.

I have not seen Megan & her boys since last summer....so I can't wait to snuggle my newborn nephew...hoping to return to a newborn niece (Mandi!).

Jaclyn did that exact dental injury when she was 2 years old. Ouch.
Enjoy your auntie time!

Bon Yoyage! :)

Poor boy. :( For some reason about 5 of my nephews/neices seem to have done this too.

Um Voyage (did I do a Y?).

Poor guy- that looks painful!

Have a great trip!

Poor Davyn! That looks so painful. He's sweet to smile for a picture for you. My heart sunk when I realized you'd have to pay a visit to your freaky dentist, but then wondered if he was still AWOL, so I'm glad you found someone new and fabulous.

Have a wonderful trip! I hope you get lots of baby snuggling in, and that they're doing well.

I didn't know it was possible to push a tooth back in. I have learned something tonight. So sorry that happened!
I hope you have a happy trip! I will miss you at book club.

Ouch! Poor kid. That is tough. What a brave guy.

Have a great time on your trip. I just love newborns.

That is a long time to be away from your men...and hard to leave with your D injured too. I am sure that Megan will love having you there...nothing quite like a sister.

What a little trooper. Poor little guy that looks painful!

Oh my gosh, poor guy. Kids are able to handle these terrible accidents so much better than an adult could. Can you even imagine such a thing?

I am so excited that you are getting a little trip to see your sister. What precious time! Homecoming is always bittersweet...so glad to see your little family, but what a mess to clean!

D looks miserable, but what a little trooper. I hope he is feeling better.

Poor D! That looked horrible yesterday, but I'm glad it wasn't an all-day affair for you. I hope you got the stuff done that you needed to. Liar! You want to return BEFORE your niece is born. I'm sure you won't miss it, but you never know. I am so jealous that you get to go see Megs and the boys - and especially Caleb. Your boys will miss you, but it will be good for everyone. Have a great trip!

I read your post this morning but didn't have time to comment on it. Poor little D. He is quite the brave one though.

I took Ry outside today and let her run around to her heart's content. She was nuts and wiped out on our driveway. When I got there her mouth was bleeding and all I could see was bloody teeth. I tried to see where it was coming from and kept picturing Davyn's little face. Thankfully she just bumped her lip, though. I would have freaked out for sure.

Ouch, ouch, ouch. My mouth and my heart hurt for him. Glad he was feeling well enough to smile. Have a safe trip.

(Looked like a fun Easter. Too funny that hard-boiled eggs are now treats!)

To expound on my mom's comment, I was standing on a chair making jello with my best friend, when he bumped the chair and I banged my two front teeth on the counter, and they got pushed back up into my face. Nine years later, I had to get braces because those two front teeth were crooked.

Oh, boy little guy. That looks like it hurt! Hope you have a great trip what a treat to hold a newborn!

I meant to say poor. I guess I am a little sleepy :)

ow-ie!! priceless smile, though. hope you are enjoying your time away, playing the doting aunt and loving every minute!!

Oh, ouch! I'm sure you didn't need that on the day before leaving town! That would make it harder to get ready to go AND harder to leave. Thank heavens kids are so resilient. Have a great trip!

Hope you are having a wonderful time! I don't think you are giving your boys enough credit for how much they will miss you.

Looking forward to hearing your trip news...hope it is going great!

Can't believe that he could/would smile with such an injury. He is a doll! I hope that you had a great time away! (also a relief that you found a new great dentist! Phew!)

Poor little guy. I hope his injury doesn't hamper his casanovaing.

I keep checking your blog, wondering if you are back and I think "ouch" was the perfect title for your going away post. "Ouch, still gone." Missing you, but knowing that Megan is LOVING your visit and your service.

This is why I don't have boys. I can't handle pain and that poor sad tooth. Poor guy. Hopefully he's feeling better and I hope your trip is wonderful!

I'm not sure if you're back or not, but I just wanted to say that I've missed you! I'm sure you've got lots of residual snuggling to take care of at home!

Sheesh. When are you getting home?
