Sunday gratitude

I am grateful to be teaching in Young Women's. I am grateful that if you study a principle of the gospel, it's beauty is then seen around every bend. I am grateful that this week my topic was the priesthood, truly a gift from a loving God. This quote from the lesson especially stood out to me: "The Priesthood is a power great enough to control worlds, yet gentle enough to bless a newborn baby."

Over the past three days I have witnessed a father's blessing (a sweet, sweet moment between Jenna, Mike and Kay), a temple sealing (holding hands with my love, absorbing the beautiful reminder of what "it's all about", tearily remembering our own sealing with a tiny A wrapped in white) and a blessing for the sick. Little wonder that I spent much of today's teaching time in tears. I'm overcome by the love our Heavenly Father has for us, by the obvious intent to help us approach perfection, by the role of families in that path.
Aidan (along with the rest of us) has been quite excited about Jenna's wedding. He was anxiously saving a dance for me and one for Grandma Kay. But on Saturday afternoon he was down flat with a fever. When we got to the Scotts' for pictures, his "unwell" was quite obvious. Jim and his dad took Aidan into the back room for a blessing. Within a half hour Aidy was up & around, a bit slower & quieter than usual, but smiling. Later, singing "Yellow" (A seriously knows all the words), we bumped into Papa on the dance floor. He smiled and said, "I know why you're feeling better." Aidan's grin matched Papa's as he placed both of his hands on his own head and exclaimed, "blessing!" Another grateful...my boys are surrounded by men (dad, grandpas, many, many uncles) who gratefully honor and hold the priesthood, who know that it is an answer that works, an answer that connects us to each other, and an answer that connects us to our Father in Heaven.

I love that Aidan put his hands on his own head and said, "Blessing!" What a huge lesson for him at such a young age.
And as a side note, I love that he knows all the words to "Yellow". That was Avery's favorite song at a similar age.
