SPT re-take: new favorite ornament

I know I'm fairly fresh at this mom job, but some of the simple moments still steal my breath.  Like opening this present - the first of many child-made ornmanets to adorn our tree, I'm sure.  Still...I had to literally gulp back tears.  Because he's growing up so quickly...because he's flesh of my flesh... because I love him hugely.

As for Lelly's challenge of this week, I'm foregoing the picture portion, but will say that while the littles are nestled in their beds fast asleep, Jim & I mostly spend our evenings together in our separate worlds.  I'll have to snap a picture some time of our side by side desks & computers in the office (which is a post Christmas card MESS right now).  I am definitely a person who needs "me" time, but it's somehow more complete "me" time with Jim on the edge.  And I don't expect that to make sense to anyone but myself...but I love the peace in that reality.

Addendum:  Marie just asked if Aidan made this himself.  Heavens no, this was not all his working.  He proudly told me, however, that he painted the red and pushed his picture in from the back. His teacher did the cute pom-pom & bow adorning, I'm sure. He's more of a knot man, himself.

Did he make that ornament? He did a great job! I know what you mean about gulping back tears over the little moments. Mother-love is such a different breed of love, isn't it? It should have its own name.

I totally understand your emotional state upon receiving such a cute ornament. I definitely have moments like that where I can't believe I'm a mother and that there are two people walking around who were literally made by me.

I also get the "me" time with Jim on the edges. I have a friend whose husband reads a book in her craft room while she creates projects just so they can be "together."

That is really cute. I think I have way too many homemade ornaments from the boys on the tree to get teary eyed at any of them anymore. But it's always a treat to get that first one, but trust me, it's just a prelude of years of them on the way!

that's a great "handmade" ornament. ours run the gamut from *great* to *uhhh....* but they all make me smile, nonetheless.

i love that you have "peace in your reality." fantastic thought!

Cute cute ornament. How overwhelming it must have been to receive that.

I absolutely understand the alone time with your husband on the edges. That is completely perfect to me. I want to do my own thing but want Josh to share the area with me.

Those were cute ornaments. I have about five little girlies looking out from the tree now and they're all darling. Like you said, the first of many to come.

I need "me" time too. I love my children, but seem to enjoy those nestling moments a lot too:)

Cute ornament. Aren't the picture ones the best?

That is really cute! My girls preschool went through a pre-printed craft foam generic ornament phase that really didn't touch my heart, but they seem to have moved on to sweeter, more meaningful ones.

Our office is too small for two, so we do a lot of laptop (me) and ESPN watching (Keith) on the couch.

P.S. I like your top knot. :)

I agree that I love the photo ones--especially if they are as cute as that! There certainly are better ways to make ornaments than others!

On working side by side--it does work well if we are either both working or both relaxing. Not so well if one is slaving away on something and the other is relaxing! Although, I guess you can't always time everything right like that...

Well, the red paint job looks great. And such a cute picture!

I know what you mean about flesh of your flesh...your heart walking around outside of your body. I love Marie's idea that it should have it's own name...this kind of love. That is a beautiful thought.

I also love that a little combination of paint and glue and his picture can make you misty. Do you ever wonder how this happened? I do...all the time.

That is how much of our evenings are spend "together" as well. Glad we aren't the only ones. I watched a movie the other night while he read on the couch with me (it was a chick flick)

Darling ornament. I just opened another one today. Completely homemade all by himself--they do grow up much too quickly.

Ya that's what good moms do with their kids. I keep thinking about it, but put it off till tomorrow. And I'm afraid I'm out of tomorrows. Ok...next year now!

Well, whether he made it "all my by itself" (as Marshall, my 3 yr old would say) or not, it's a cute ornament. I love it!
Now as for your computers side by side, that sounds EXACTLY like my house. My husband plays his game Eve (a massively multiplayer online game) and I read blogs and emails and search for info and help for my 3 yr old son. Hubby has headphones on and is on this "teamspeak" thing so he completely in his own little world. It gets REALLY annoying after a while. His idea of spending time together is me playing PS2 with him. I like playing games on PS2 but I'm usually so exhausted by that time that I play 5 min. and I'm falling asleep.

oh how sweet! I love the handmade ornaments. such sweet reminders and such sweet treasures.

can i just say, WOW! your beautiful card arrived today. talk about "taking breath away" it really did, right down to the gold envelope.

both yours and kelly's came today, along with a few others from old friends, but none as lovely as my blogging gals had crafted.

Ok I was just catching up on some blog posts of yours I missed!! FHE packets! Sounds like I need a little more info on this. In little ol SJ no one has heard of this concept and I've been grasping at straws to do something for my boys...so tell me how this works!! :)

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I had ambitions of recreating the cute reindeer ornaments Alexis' preschool teacher made for her first-grade class party yesterday. But I scratched it because of time constraints for premade foam ornaments piled high with gobs of glue and pictures cut too small for the frame. Ornaments probably destined more for the trash than the keepsake box. Oh well, at least the kids had fun making them. That ornament is very adorable and would have been just as easy to make. Where were you last week when I was idea shopping! :)
Oh and that you for the Christmas card!

Oh, I know just what you mean. I got my first handmade picture ornament this year. Mine had blue glitter all over it.

And isn't it interesting how comforting it is to have your hubby in the same room with you even when you are doing completely seperate activities. I knew exactly what you meant.

That is a really cute ornament. I need to do a self-portrait retake on how I displayed my cards this year - there was a change of plan.
Yeah for preschool and precious things that come home from it.
