six for Saturday

My mind can focus today, but only in short spurts.  So here it is:

1.  Today at a store I was assaulted by Christmas.  I LOVE Christmas, but find this ridiculous.  I know it's nearly cliche to bemoan the commercialization that comes so early, but, I wholeheartedly despise the way Thanksgiving becomes nothing but the marker of upcoming sales.

2.  Davyn has been puzzle crazed of late.  I walked in on him finishing a 70 piece puzzle solo.  This is my two year old!  So, of course, I ambitiously bought a 100 piece today...and cursed when I realized I'd doomed myself to sit & help.

3.  ASU lost against Oregon today.  I strangely found myself looking forward to the game all week.  And commenting on all the plays.  Will I be a football lover yet???

4.  Sadly, in regard to #3 and all sports, I've come to realize that I'm the worst sort of fan.  When the team is winning, I'm there!

5.  I'm making 75 cupcakes that look like purses this week.

6.  Blogging has many blessings.  But the best of it comes when old friends join the throng.  My high school friend and college roommate April just started a blog.  April's yearly Christmas cards are likely the best writing I read all year, so to have more frequent doses of this girl truly thrills me.  She is a wordsmith.  And creative genius.  And passionate.  And hilarious.  And one of my favorite people in the multiverse.  Welcome!

I can't believe Davyn and 70 piece puzzle- thats awesome! I too am feeling sad about the ASU game. At the end of the 3rd quarter when it didn't seem hopeful for ASU, I left and went to my least favorite place- Wal-mart. As I was walking the isle- what do i hear- Christmas Music playing. Come on! By Christmas I am going to be so sick of Christmas. I feel the same way as you do- what hapened to Thanksgiving?

Just catching up on blogs...I've been "living" at the
school lately! Your little guys are so cute!! Love
their crazy expressions ;)
I wonder if there exists a town where Fall is Fall and
Winter is Winter! Thanksgiving/Christmas separate! I
know we all feel the same way. Can't wait to see the
million cupcakes you're making! ciao

Love your thoughts. I think Spencer and Davyn should get together and do puzzles! It is amazing which children like puzzles. Half of my family are great puzzle people and the other half of us don't do as well. :)

I can't wait to see a photo of your cupcakes! What a big job!

Three things:

First, ditto to the utter madness and skin-crawling irritation of the pre-pre-Christmas season. Last night I was driving home and flipped to Delilah for a moment...only to find Christmas music playing. WHAT!!? I just about drove off the road into a concrete barrier just so I didn't have to listen to "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas" on November 3rd. I will never make it 51 more days.

Second, I cannot WAIT to see these cupcakes!

And third, thank you for your gracious words and gentle nudgings. I am still terrified at the prospect of being "out there," but, also having quite a bit of fun. Anyone is welcome to view my site and join the discussion. It is so good to be in almost daily contact, I can hardly believe it. Thank heaven for "old" and "always" friends.

I feel your pain when it comes to being assaulted with Christmas. Our craft store brought out the cinnamon pine cones weeks ago, so now I have to mouth-breathe in the store unless I want a headache. It's ridiculous.

I hope you'll post pictures of the purse cupcakes.

I just laugh about the early Christmas stuff. I get myself in order for Christmas in November, making lists etc, but don't start the fun until December 1st.

I had to laugh at Jill's cinnamon pinecone comment. I hate them too.

I've come to expect the Christmas stuff, but I still don't like it. What shocked me last year was going to JoAnn's Fabric on Christmas Eve to get jingle bells (almost forgot our tradition -- Santa always puts a jingle bell in the stockings a la The Polar Express), and was faced with a gigantic Valentine display. Baffling!

Can't wait to see the purse cupcakes -- you know how I adore cupcakes.

And, I second all your comments about April. I've been looking and looking for a certain photo to do a welcome to blogging post, and I can't find it. I did find my pumpkin muffin recipe, though.

I think we really benefit from having our Thanksgiving before Halloween, so that they don't run together.
I really want to see purse cupcakes!

I so hear you on Christmas. I gasped the other day when it was playing in Wal-mart the DAY before Halloween. Jeesh.

We were so sad about the ASU game last night--such a bummer. I guess we got too cauky.

Post those cupcake photos--I bet their amazing!

We just did our first round of Christmas shopping tonight. I know what you mean though. They seem to start all the seasons way too early. Even Back To School seems to start the first day of summer vacation!

I am being slowly converted into a football fan by the guys I work with. That's all they talk about: football, fantasy football, so on. I'm not too into it yet, but I've been advised that my favorite team is the Broncos. I heard they just lost badly. :(

So sad that Christmas starts the day after Halloween. I'm ignoring it until it is properly December. Tis true. Then I will panic because I will be behind but I'm going to do it anyway:)

Wow on the puzzle. What a smarty pants!

We were at Lowe's a week before Halloween and it was decked out in Christmas. In October! I refuse to get into any Christmas spirit before Thanksgiving and it is only with much coercion that I allow my sister to play Christmas music as we prepare our turkey feast.
I hated football until I married someone who is obsessed with it and figured if I wanted to spend time with him I better learn to at least endure the sport. A few years later I found myself watching games about this time in the year without him home. Yep. I'm a fan now :).
Whoa on the puzzles. That is amazing. When he's five that boy is going to be taking the engine out of your car and putting it back together. Anything you want to keep in tact I'd keep under lock and key :).
Checked out April's blog. Very cute. And speaking of cute I know you will post pictures of adorable cupcakes when complete right?

Amy! Again, so well said. Why can't we just celebrate Thanksgiving? Would it kill the stores to actually toss up a few decorations in its honor? Definitley just a marker for the upcoming sales. Sigh.

I would LOVE to see the cupcakes as purses! You are so cool.

Purse cupcakes, can't wait. I have a puzzle crazed boy as well.
