shhh!

I have a dirty secret.  It resides in one of our upstairs rooms.  So when visitors come I can carefully lock the door to avoid discovery.  Little do they know the truth of what lurks behind the locked.

my work space.

Recovery Step 1:  Admitting there's a problem.  Check.

And poor Jim.  Bad enough, this is the view from his own tidier corner (though I do like to think that me sitting in that chair helps somewhat?):He still has to deal with the truth that my disease is of the creeping sort.  The infringing variety.  The kind that begins with an innocent paper on the edge of his desk.  Then a magazine, camera bag, two weeks' worth of mail, glue?, cough syrup?, my green cup (there's no way a glass of water would survive on my own desk..for obvious reasons).

Today I plan to progress my Recovery.  By tackling this beast.  For the sake of order and sanctity of marriage.  Wish me luck.  Give me support.  Check back for "after" shots.

I know your dirty secret and I can't believe that you are going to subdue the beast behind the door. But good luck and "may the force be with you." You will need it.

Wow, what's up with Cyndee commenting lately? I almost had a heart attack the other day when she commented on mine. Anyway -- I see that you found the haircut coupons (on the top of Jim's desk). Good luck and I look forward to seeing the "after" pics!

if you haven't posted by Saturday, I'll have someone come and check on you!

Good for you tackling that project. My space is the corner of my bedroom. It is a magnet for 'stuff' and is never quite entirely clean.

OK, you need three boxes, label them "Keep", "Toss", and "Does not belong in this space". Then you play a fun game of sorting everything into those boxes. Also, you need to whistle while you work!
I am proud of you posting that. I need to do the same thing for my garage because I am horrified of it!

Way to go!!!

Do you remember those Christmas cards I mentioned a while ago? Yep. I finally, finally boxed them up (along with the past two years worth of cards and keep papers) just two days ago. Maybe some of my clean-it-up vibes worked my way to your house? It has been a satisfying few days here.

But you are lucky that you have a door to close! Our computer is just off the entryway and kitchen. Just think of what it will look like when you're done!

Thank you for inspiring us all to tackle those hidden spaces in our own houses! Can't wait to see the after!

Are you sure you didn't sneak into my house and take a picture of our office? WOW. It looks so similar. Good luck. My best advice, if you haven't used it, needed it or wanted it within the last 3 months, throw it out. Have fun.

I hope you are getting down to the bottom of it. I will be checking back soon. Best of luck!!

Amy! Hello! I have this same disease when it comes to "work spaces." I am a pile person. There, I said it. My piles of are the creeping sort ... they can take over any desk if left unchecked. Happy cleaning, happy clearing, happy new work space!

I just made my blog private and would love to have your email address. shawnaborg@gmail.com. It's been so long! I have taken a big blogging break, but I'm back. I live in Utah now. We are practically neighbors!

I'm eagerly awaiting the after post, because I'm not sure it can be done in just one day. Post today and prove me wrong!!

It was done in HALF a day, Megs. Oh ye of little faith!
the pictures will come...I just got photoshop so I'm spending my time playing.

I have the same sort of creeping piles disease. But my spaces have been much much worse than that! I know you can do it, Amy! And it looks like it could definitely be a one-day job, so congratulations on that. Now, my garage... that's gonna take about a week.

Oh...these projects are feared. The results are awesome - but it is indeed a process! Good music and the promise of a treat usually do it for me! (yes, pathetic to have to reward oneself with some chocolate concoction! But hey, bribery works for me!)
Can't wait to see your results

So, funny, and I just saw the after shot so I know you made good on your word. It's just such an honest thing to do, to take a real picture like that. Makes me like you even more:)

How do we let things get like this? I've done it myself (oh the humanity) and am in disbelief each time.
