    SPT: stolen moments

Once upon a time, I married a boy who already owned a house and shared it with two roommates.  We kept his brother, kicked out the other & settled down happily in our 1000 square foot master bedroom.  Such a spacey bedroom sounds nice in theory, but this one was fully bachelor equipped with couch, two recliners, big screen t.v., desk, computer, king size bed.  Hardly the romantic newlywed haven.  When visitors came, we watched movies in the bedroom.  Now, this faintly disturbed me at first...and "faintly disturbed" nested and grew until [after about a year!] I mustered the courage to claim bachelor days over.  I wanted no big screen or recliners in my bedroom retreat.  The suggestion did not go over well.  So we fought.  And - eventually - he caved.  The television and giant chairs made their way to the front room.  But the computer and huge desk stayed because, well, there was so much dang space.  So much for feng shui.

Two years later we moved to this house.  And a nice, normal-sized master bedroom.  We bought the bed of my dreams, discovered perfect mattress nirvana, and I've reveled in the lack of space for extras.  Instead, there's space for our solitude.  I now love my bedroom.  And my stolen moments are spent there thus:

That is hilarious that your old bedroom was 1000 sf. I do remember it being huge. Your new bed looks lovely as can be, and yes, it would be wonderful to meet in Montana some summer! I can't tell from the picture -- what are you reading?

I bet you felt real good in your bedroom after being in mine! I so need to decorate it and get new furniture! That'll have to be next on the list -- my own haven! I do love your bed!

Kel - The Autobiography of Henry VIII...which is not an autobiography, but a novel attempting to pose as an autobiography. It seems historically accurate and long, but enjoyable. Hope you're reading away in your hammock by the river!

I can't even comprehend a 1000 sqft master bedroom, that would have been a sight to see. Your current set up sounds much better and more conducive to seriously good reading.

What a fun tale. Our bedroom is still making the transition from college furniture to retreat.

My husband says the bedroom has two purposes, one of them is not to watch TV. Way to go!!!!

1000 square feet?!? That is half of my home!! :) Gotta love those extremely large AZ master bedrooms! Where I live most houses (including new construction) do not even come with a master bathroom! Strange. Luckily we found one with a master bathroom the size of a small vehicle. Great SPT.

    you are too cute!

i know what you mean about the feng shui... when taylor moved in, we took the computer out of "her" room and the only other place to put it was our master. heck, i don't even turn it on (i do all my internet at work), and i can still feel the subtle jab in my chi!!

My first house was 1100 sq ft! I hope it doesn't take you a year to verbalize things you're unhappy about anymore! Was that your first fight?

Oh the fight that must be between every husband and wife. We had many of these discussions when finishing our basement. Brett wanted plenty of spots to store his travel knick knacks and sports memorabilia. I put my foot down. Since women care more about aesthetics and I have to be here all day I win. It's a woman's home. She gets to decorate it. And every man must be deflated in his attempts at home decor.
Very cute picture of you. I love your headboard. Where do you get that? Whenever we do get a king-size bed so I can like my husband at night again I'm going to need all new furniture in my bedroom. At least it's not 1000 sq feet.
